New to TTS — how do I make it sound less robotic?

Brand new to TTS here. I generated a short demo for my podcast intro and the voice sounds flat and lifeless — like a computer reading a menu out loud. I've tried a couple of different voices and it's the same story. The pacing feels rushed, every sentence lands with the same weight, and there's zero expression in it.
